Installation

On this page

Debian and Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE Leap and Arch Linux each have a native package, installed with one command; Windows 11 has an installer; a build from the sources is given too. It is for engineers installing the Hub on Linux or on Windows. Once it is installed, create the configuration with libremodular-mcp init.

What the level means

Each package carries the level Validated in container: it was installed, used, removed and installed again in a clean container image of every version listed, and every step ended with exit code 0. That was eleven images: Debian 12 and 13, Ubuntu 22.04, 24.04 and 26.04, Fedora 43, 44 and 45, openSUSE Leap 16.0 and 16.1, and Arch Linux. A container has no screen and no desktop session, so no platform here carries the level Tested, which needs a trial on a real machine.

Each package command below was run in those images as it is written, as root and with the option that answers its question in advance (-y, --non-interactive or --noconfirm); libremodular-mcp --version then printed libremodular-mcp 0.1.0 in all eleven. The Fedora 45 image names itself a prerelease in its os-release. Fedora 43 stops being supported on 2 December 2026, Fedora 44 on 19 May 2027 and Fedora 45 on 24 November 2027.

Signatures

The RPM packages and the Arch package are not signed. Without --allow-unsigned-rpm, zypper refuses the local file with Signature verification failed [6-File is unsigned]. dnf installs it and prints Warning: skipped OpenPGP checks for 1 package from repository: @commandline. pacman prints no warning.

What a package installs

The commands libremodular-mcp and libremodular-launch in /usr/bin/, the bridges for GIMP, Krita, Blender and LibreOffice in /usr/share/libremodular-mcp/bridges/, the guides in /usr/share/doc/libremodular-mcp/docs/ in English, French, German and Spanish, and the manual pages in the same four languages. The Debian package lists 51 files; Inkscape has no bridge, because its module starts one process per script.

The Windows installer

The Windows 11 (x64) installer is one file, libremodular-mcp-0.1.0-setup.exe, inside the archive libremodular-mcp-0.1.0-windows.zip. Its level is Built and tried without a screen: the Hub was built on a Windows 11 machine for the x86_64-pc-windows-gnu target, then the installer was run silently, used and removed in an account whose name has accents. That trial created the configuration with libremodular-mcp init, started the Hub, which answered initialize and listed execute_script and get_state, opened no connection outside the machine, and, once the program was removed, left only the configuration and the token. Nobody has yet tried it on their own machine. The installer is not signed, so Windows may warn before running it.

It needs no administrator rights. It installs the Hub, libremodular-launch (which refuses to run on Windows), the bridges as text files, the licence and the guides in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\LibreModular-MCP\, adds that folder to the PATH of your account, and registers its uninstaller. libremodular-mcp init creates the configuration and the token in %LOCALAPPDATA%\libremodular-mcp\config\; removing the program leaves them, and the audit journal. On Windows only the Inkscape module was tried (Inkscape 1.4.2 and 1.4.4); the bridges of GIMP, Krita, Blender and LibreOffice were tried against a stand-in host, not in the real applications.

What the build from the sources needs

The section “From the sources” below builds the Hub in a clone of the repository. It needs Rust 1.97 or later, the version Cargo.toml declares, and a C compiler and linker (on Debian, sudo apt install build-essential). A release build took 52 seconds, the dependencies being already downloaded, and left the binary at target/release/libremodular-mcp; its init created the same two files as the packages’ command.
